Mangaluru, June 6: The World Environment Day was observed on June 5 here at SDM Law College in association with Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Mangaluru, District Legal Services Authority, Mangalore University & Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

 

Shobha B. J., Senior Civil Judge & Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dakshina Kannada, said, “Pollution and cutting of trees will lead to a slow destruction of the environment”.

 

Antony S. Mariappa, Deputy Conserver of Forests (DCF), embarked on the important role played by the environment in overcoming global warming.

 

Dr. Tharanath, Principal, SDM Law College, Mangaluru presided over the programme. 

 

Vijaya Hegde, Senior Officer, KSPCB, Rajendra Kalbhavi, Executive Director, DK Nirmithi Kendra, Dr. Maheshwari Singh, ACF, Deputy Environmental Officer, KSPCB were present.

 

The programme commenced with a Jatha where more than 600 people had participated.

 

Students of Delhi Public School, MRPL, Mangalore presented eco friendly models prepared by them on the occasion in SDM Law college Campus.

  

To encourage eco friendly products and its usage in daily life, all participants were distributed with Seeds, Jute Bags, Cotton Bags & Saplings.
